ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf decided Tuesday to challenge the decision of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in the foreign funding case in Islamabad High Court.

“ECP’s verdict has proved that there wasn’t any foreign funding case against the PTI,” former minister of planning and PTI leader Asad Umar said while addressing a press conference alongside Shah Mehmood Qureshi in Islamabad.

Earlier today, the ECP in a 68-page decision, stated that PTI had taken funding from the American company, LLC, adding that Imran Khan submitted a false affidavit regarding the declarations of funds from 2008 to 2013.

Asad during his presser criticizes the ECP saying that the Political Parties Act 2002 mentions a certificate and not an affidavit.

He said that the ECP had exceeded its mandate by mentioning the false affidavit. “The ECP is not a state institution now because it has become PDM’s associate,” he added.

He said that the election commission should tell the nation why the funding report of the PML-N and PPP was not being released.

He said the election commission was giving shelter to the PDM parties by violating the directives of the Supreme Court.

The PTI leader challenged the ECP to publish PTI’s account details on the website.

He said that Imran Khan collected the most charity in the history of Pakistan. “People send money to PTI from within the country and from abroad,” he added.

Khawaja Asif says Imran Khan is a ‘foreign-funded agent’

Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif has urged the executive to refer the matter pertaining to PTI’s prohibited funding to the judiciary for further action.

Speaking at the floor of the National Assembly today (Tuesday), the federal minister said that the judiciary should assess the evidence mentioned in the decision of the ECP regarding foreign funding of the PTI.

“The judiciary should decide the matter on merit to uphold the law and constitution,” Asif said.

He said the ECP today fulfilled its responsibility by declaring that PTI had received prohibited foreign funding.

“Imran Khan is a foreign funded agent, who harmed and maligned the state institutions,” the defense minister said.

Quoting ECP’s decision, Asif said that it had been proved that the PTI chief accepted funding from foreign countries, including the United States, Canada, India, Israel and the United Kingdom.

“This case is a bright example of money laundering,” Asif said adding that it would be a great tragedy if Imran Khan goes unscathed.
