Akbar S. Babar makes surprise return as PTI heads for intra-party election
As Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf gears up for its intra-party election, an old face returned to the party secretariat after a long time.
Akbar S. Babar, a founding member of the party who has long been estranged and has even filed cases against the PTI, visited the party secretariat on Friday.
In his first appearance at the party’s headquarter in 13 years, Babar said that there were many old members who wanted to be part of the intra-party election.
Babar said that he had arrived to get information about nomination papers, voter lists and the election process.
Although he did not specify if he would contest for a specific position, Babar said he wanted to ‘fully’ participate in the polls.
Babar was behind the foreign funding case against the PTI.
On the other hand, Barrister Gohar Khan filed his nomination papers on Friday for the election. Gohar is the leading candidate for the post of the party’s caretaker chairman.
Announcing his nomination on Wednesday, Senator Ali Zafar had said that Gohar’s name had been approved by Imran Khan himself.
The PTI is set to hold its intra-party elections on December 2 after the Election Commission of Pakistan ruled that it could risk losing its electoral symbol unless the polls were held.
