Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf President Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi was rearrested after being acquitted and released from custody by a Lahore judicial magistrate in a corruption case.

The court exonerated him from charges in the Gujrat Corruption case and ordered his release.

However, the police re-arrested him in a case registered in Gujranwala.

The decision irked the caretaker Punjab government with Information Minister Aamir Mir claiming that the judicial magistrate leaned towards the PTI.

The ruling has exposed the political affiliation of the judge who overlooked the fact, said Aamir Mir.

The minister said that the same judge had passed orders in favor of the PTI in five other cases in the past, granting relief to Elahi and his aide Mohammad Khan Bhatti.

Pervaiz, the former Punjab chief minister, was taken into custody from his residence Zahoor Palace in the provincial capital of Punjab on Thursday. His family members were when the police arrested him.

“Pervaiz Elahi was wanted by police in several cases. This is a case of the Anti-Corruption Establishment case in which his bail was rejected,” Punjab Information Minister Amir Mir had said.

Elahi tells PTI workers to stand firm

At his hearing in court on Friday morning, Elahi said that he was a ‘supporter’ of the armed forces.

Elahi also asserted that he was completely innocent and had faith that the judiciary would dispense justice in his case.

He also said that PTI workers should stand firm and not back off in any case.
