Reasons to love Anaya Aziz from Sabaat

I binge-watched Sabaat last night and couldn't pause streaming episodes, despite multiple warnings from my mother that I should turn off my laptop and go to sleep. From Sarah Khan's flawless skin to her polite voice and wardrobe, beautiful family dynamics of Aziz household (although I do think Mrs. Aziz needs a dose of feminism), and Mawra Hocane's close to reality acting, there is so much to cherish about this new serial.

But one thing that I loved most about this serial is the character of Anaya Aziz. Portrayed by Mawra Hocane, Anaya is a young ambitious girl who is not only intelligent and studious but also courageous and knows how to stand up for herself. Here are five reasons to love young Aziz:

She is ambitious:
Anaya is not only studious but also very ambitious. She realizes the difficulties young girls face in this utterly patriarchal society and wants to encourage them to overcome these obstacles. She organizes a seminar with the help of her all-girls-group and man did I love her speech.

She knows how to stand up for herself:
So in the scene where Hasan breaks her model just because he lost to her, she doesn't shy away from teaching him a lesson and stands up for herself. Anaya! you go gurrrlll!!!

She is not too proud to admit when she's made a mistake:
One thing that I'd love for our dramas to normalize is humility. Unfortunately, our characters are either too evil to know humility or too good to make any mistake in the first place. These two extremes often dehumanize them, leaving very little room for us to relate to them. Well! Anaya Aziz surprised me with her humane characteristics. She wasn't too proud to admit when she was a little too harsh towards Hassan.

She is the friend you need:
She is not only smart and courageous, but she is also the best friend you need in your hour of need. The way she tackled Shakeel, was so brilliant. She taught us that it's never okay to cave into the demands of blackmailers, and the only way to deal with them is to teach them a lesson.
