A comprehensive search operation targeting insurgents and extremists is currently underway in Lower Kurram, with security forces conducting actions at four separate locations.

The Regional Police Officer (RPO) Kohat reported that, during the operation, an additional 18 suspects have been detained, raising the total number of arrests to 30. This includes 18 terrorists and 12 facilitators.

Officials have noted that the provincial government has placed bounties on certain terrorists, prompting ongoing search efforts in the mountainous regions.

RPO Kohat emphasized that house-to-house searches are being conducted to thoroughly cleanse the area of terrorist presence.

In addition, the police have committed to ensuring that Thall-Parachinar Road is made safe for travel as soon as possible.

Current conditions

The Thall-Parachinar Road has been closed to all traffic for the past five months, causing severe difficulties for the residents.

This road closure has led to a critical shortage of food and other essential items, and the unavailability of petrol and diesel has forced citizens to travel on foot for the last three months.

Communication systems are also in disarray, with internet and mobile signal outages making it extremely difficult for people to stay in touch with one another.

Protest

A protest sit-in is ongoing in the Mandoori area of Lower Kurram, where local leaders have stated that the protest will continue until a relief package is provided.

The Turi Bangash tribe’s elders have expressed regret over road blockades and inflammatory speeches, despite the enforcement of Section 144.

According to the elders, three convoys were attacked in the Bagan area, resulting in the deaths of 105 individuals, yet no action has been taken so far.

Despite a peace agreement reached on January 3, , the vital Parachinar-Kurram Agency highway remained impassable, causing severe hardship for residents.

At least four security personnel and one driver were martyred and 15 others were injured when unidentified men attacked a convoy in the Bagan area of Kurram on Monday.

Authorities have registered a case against 57 terrorists involved in the deadly attack on a convoy in Lower Kurram.

The main road connecting Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Kurram district to surrounding areas has been closed to all traffic for more than 137 days, affecting residents, students, patients, and overseas Pakistanis.
