Kurram still disconnected with KP as main road closed for 137 days
The main road connecting Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Kurram district to surrounding areas has been closed to all traffic for the past 137 days, affecting residents, students, patients, and overseas Pakistanis.
A convoy for stranded passengers is anticipated this weekend to ensure safe passage, sources said.
Helicopter services have been reinstated for overseas Pakistanis, patients, and students.
Parachinar’s religious, political and social organisation, Anjuman e Hussainia Parachinar has expressed concern that many students and travellers remain unable to access the road.
The organisation has called on the government and local authorities to expedite the arrangement of a convoy to assist those in need.
Friday prayers are scheduled to be held on the road in Bagan and Mandori, with local leaders estimating that thousands would participate.
The district administration has also confirmed efforts to implement the Kohat peace agreement, which includes the dismantling of bunkers by both parties.
Nearly 100 bunkers have already been destroyed, with plans for the removal of all remaining structures shortly.
On February 1, religious leader, Qari Rizwanullah, was shot dead by unidentified assailants in the Sadda Pir Qoum area.
