A religious leader, Qari Rizwanullah, was shot dead by unidentified assailants in the Sadda Pir Qoum area on Saturday, state-run news agency APP reproted.

He was struck in the head and passed away immediately in Lower Kurram, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

His body was taken to Sadda Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Police have launched a search operation to apprehend the suspects involved in the shooting. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.

The attack came days after Upper Kurram Assistant Commissioner Saeed Manan Khan and three policemen were injured in a shooting incident on Friday, January 31, in the upper district’s tehsil of KP, police said.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has pledged to take “indiscriminate action” against those involved in violence in the Kurram district, coinciding with the ongoing demolition of illegal bunkers on January 19.

Vehicles loaded with relief items travelling towards Kurram’s Parachinar came under attack on January 16, when unidentified men opened fire at them.
