Kurram still disconnected from KP as key road closure enters 111th day
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Kurram was still disconnected from the province as the key road closure entered its 111th consecutive day on Monday.
A total of 290 individuals, including 157 children, have died due to a lack of medical supplies and fuel, according to civil society organisations.
The provincial government transported the medical supplies and basic commodities via helicopter following the road closure and attack on convoys.
A convoy transporting food and essential supplies from Thall to Parachinar was ambushed on Friday shortly after a peace agreement was reached between conflicting factions. The attack led to the martyrdom of two security personnel, with five others sustaining injuries.
In response to the ambush, security forces engaged the attackers, resulting in the deaths of six assailants and injuries to ten more. Initially, reports indicated that only one official had been killed, but it was later confirmed that a second official succumbed to his injuries on Friday.
Of the 35 trucks in the convoy, only two returned to Thall while more than 10 trucks were looted and set on fire, media reports said. Five drivers from the convoy remain unaccounted for.
On Sunday, the security forces launched an operation against militants in Lower Kurram’s Bagan area, where a curfew has been imposed. Security forces have taken command of adjacent posts to maintain order.

All bunkers to be dismantled in Kurram today under peace agreement
The demolition of bunkers has also been delayed in view of the operation, according to members of the Grand Jirga. Eight bunkers have been destroyed so far.
Leaders from Kurram have warned the provincial government that they would outline their future course of action if the Kohat peace agreement were not implemented.
“There are concerns that troublemakers have infiltrated peaceful communities,” Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government spokesperson Barrister Saif said in a statement. He added that action against certain miscreants in affected areas was “essential.”
