Kurram cut-off despite peace agreement
Despite a peace agreement reached two days ago, the vital Parachinar-Kurram Agency highway remains impassable, causing severe hardship for residents. An estimated 400,000 people in Upper Kurram are effectively cut off, with the supply of essential goods completely disrupted.
Protests continue in front of the Kurram Press Club, with demonstrators staging a sit-in to demand the reopening and securing of the road. Despite freezing temperatures, a large number of people are participating.
Protestors insist the sit-in will continue until the road is reopened and its security guaranteed. A similar protest is also underway in the Bagan area of Kurram, with participants demanding the delivery of promised relief packages.
The district administration claims a convoy of 80 vehicles has been halted, awaiting the clearance of the road before proceeding.
The continued closure of the highway, coupled with the ongoing protests, highlights the fragility of the recent peace agreement and the deep-seated concerns of the local population regarding security and access to essential services.
