Second food supply convoy to leave from Thall for Kurram today
A second convoy carrying food supplies would leave from Thall on Tuesday (today), consisting of 45 cargo vehicles loaded with essential items, including food, medicines, vegetables, fruits, and other supplies.
The convoy would be dispatched after clearing the route, according to the district administration.
Local tribal leaders have expressed concerns, stating that the supplies from over 40 trucks are “insufficient” for the needs of the large population in the area and have urged for more adequate provisions to be delivered.
Last week, the first convoy reached crisis-hit Parachinar after nearly three months. The recent departure of a humanitarian aid convoys coincided with a critical shortage of medicines and essential supplies last month due to tribal conflicts that have claimed over 200 lives since July 2024.
Extended road closures intensified the humanitarian crisis affecting Kurram’s population of over 600,000 residents.
The convoy was dispatched following a peace agreement signed last Wednesday between the two conflicting tribes, aimed at restoring order in the region. The 14-point agreement calls for the surrender of weapons and the dismantling of bunkers.
Meanwhile, a shutter-down strike is underway in Parachinar, with all markets and shops closed.
Medical stores and private hospitals have also been shut down due to a shortage of medicines, according to the Young Doctors Association.

The prolonged closure of routes has resulted in hundreds of overseas visas and tickets being wasted, as stated by social leader Asadullah. He also highlighted that educational institutions, including schools, have been closed for the past three months, further impacting the community.
Over fifty deceased individuals from the area have been buried in Hangu and other regions due to the inability to transport them outside the area because of the road closures, sources said.
“Various measures are underway” to open the routes and provide relief to the affected population, Deputy Commissioner Ashfaq Ahmed.
