Four security personnel, one driver martyred in Kurram’s Bagan attack
At least four security personnel and one driver were martyred and 15 others were injured when unidentified men attacked a convoy in the Bagan area of Kurram on Monday.
The deceased were identified as Lance Naik Qabil Khan, Lance Naik Abdul Rahman, Lance Naik Yaseen, Sepoy Saqlein, and Sepoy Danish.
Among the injured are Constable Azim, Naik Tauseef, Naik Niaz Muhammad, and Lance Naik Haroon.
The security forces were conducting a rescue operation to help trapped drivers when armed assailants opened fire. One driver was killed, and three others were injured in the attack.
Rescue sources reported that during the exchange of fire, eight individuals, including two women, sustained injuries.
A convoy of 60 trucks was travelling from Thall to Parachinar, with nine trucks safely reaching the besieged area while 20 were sent back to Thall.
Witnesses claimed that announcements from mosques prompted people to loot the trucks, which were then set on fire. Police confirmed that many of the returned trucks had been looted, and several were burned.
Driver Gul Faraz alleged that the attackers made announcements from mosques, urging people to loot vehicles and take the plunder.
Another driver Akram Khan shared that locals had been firing at them and multiple drivers were still reportedly missing.
KP Information Advisor Barrister Saif condemned the attack and announced that strict action would be taken against the attackers. He stated that the government would respond “decisively in all areas affected by the violence.”
The main road connecting Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Kurram district to surrounding areas has been closed to all traffic for more than 140 days.
