Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has launched a new case assignment and management system, calling it a necessity of the times.

The modern system aims to enhance transparency and ensure timely justice while recovering funds lost to corruption.

During the inauguration ceremony, the prime minister highlighted that trillions of rupees worth of cases are pending in tribunals, high courts, and the Supreme Court.

He vowed to reclaim every penny from corrupt elements and redirect the recovered funds towards public welfare.

PM Shehbaz congratulated the law minister and his team for their efforts in implementing the system and expressed gratitude to Canada and the United Nations for their support.

He emphasised that the integration of advanced technology will improve the tracking and tracing of cases, benefiting litigants across Pakistan.

The prime minister also recalled the successful introduction of a track-and-trace system in the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to collect overdue taxes from industries such as tobacco and cement.

He noted that similar systems are now operational at seaports, airports, and dry ports, bringing much-needed transparency to financial transactions.

Canadian High Commissioner Leslie Scanlon praised Pakistan’s new judicial system, stating that it would lead to significant improvements, and assured Canada’s continued support.

Meanwhile, Federal Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazeer Tarar reaffirmed the government’s commitment to promoting e-governance and expediting legal proceedings, stressing that delays in justice amount to its denial.

No additional tax burden on retailers

Earlier, PM Shehbaz met with a delegation from the Pakistan Retail Business Council, led by Chairman Zaid Bashir, in Islamabad.

He assured them that retailers already within the tax net would not face additional tax burdens, while those outside the system would be brought into it through priority measures.

The prime minister directed the formation of a committee to address retailers’ concerns and emphasised the need to curb smuggling under the guise of second-hand goods.

He urged local industries to modernise their production and adopt new technologies to enhance exports and compete in global markets. Shehbaz Sharif further stated that the government is committed to making the economy cashless, alongside other reforms in the FBR.

The delegation acknowledged the government’s economic measures, citing reduced inflation and lower interest rates as key drivers of increased consumption and production.

They expressed optimism that these initiatives would further stabilise inflation, boost industrial activity, and create new employment opportunities.
