FBR stops procurement of over 1,010 vehicles
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has halted the procurement process for over 1,010 vehicles until a thorough review, referred to as “optional analysis,” is conducted by the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority.
FBR Chairman Rashid Mahmood Langrial informed the Senate Standing Committee on Finance about the decision, following accusations by Senator Faisal Vawda regarding threats to his life from tax officials related to the vehicle procurement issue.
The committee has decided to forward these allegations to the Federal Investigation Agency for further investigation.
Langrial expressed his commitment to accountability and welcomed an external investigation if deemed necessary. He mentioned that the procurement process would remain frozen until the review is completed.
He highlighted the need for enhanced enforcement capabilities within the FBR to identify non-filers and ensure compliance, emphasi ing the importance of physical market visits due to the nature of the cash economy.

In response, the FBR chairman vowed to conduct a high-level investigation and take strict action against those involved.
The Senate committee underscored the need for transparency in the procurement process, insisting that it must comply with PPRA regulations.
