The National Power Regulatory Authority has increased the power tariff on the account of FCA by Rs1.46 per kilowatt hour or unit.

A notification was issued on Friday saying that the higher tariff will be applicable to July 2023 electricity bills.

The additional amount will be collected with September 2023 electricity bills.

The FCA will not apply to life-life consumers of various power distribution companies or discos. The decision will also not apply to the consumers of K-Electric, which supplies to Karachi.

NEPRA regularly approves requests from power distribution companies to increase electricity prices under Fuel Cost Adjustment (FCA).

However, the additional FCA charges coupled with higher overall electricity tariff have caused widespread discontent in the country. The first week of September witnessed protests across the country.
