In another major court relief for the PMLN, anti-narcotics court acquitted Rana Sanaullah from drug possession charges after three years on Saturday.

The court made the ruling after the witnesses testified that they had not seen any drugs in Sanaullah’s possession.

ANF officials had arrested the PML-N leader from the motorway on July 1, 2019, as he was travelling from Islamabad to Lahore. Officials had claimed that 15 kilograms of heroin had been found in Sanaullah’s vehicle.

The now-federal interior minister spent around six months in jail, until Lahor High Court granted him bail in December 2019.

He was booked under sections 9c, 15 and 17 of the CNSA 1997.

Although the prosecution had claimed there was clear evidence available against the accused including CCTV footage, the nominated witnesses said on Saturday that they had never seen any drugs in Sanaullah’s car.

The court asked all three prosecutors to sign the new statement about the lack of evidence before granting bail to Rana Sanaullah, who had appeared in the court in person.
