After the success of no-confidence motion against former prime minister Imran Khan, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz President Shehbaz Sharif and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi's nomination papers for the prime minister's slot have been accepted, reported Aaj News on Sunday.

The election for the 23rd prime minister of the country, excluding the caretaker premiers, will be held on Monday (tomorrow) in the session of the National Assembly convened at 2pm.

Following, the submission of the nomination papers of PML-N president and the former ruling PTI leader for the prime minister's slot, Babar Awan raised objections on the papers of Shehbaz. However, the National Assembly Secretariat dismissed the objections and accepted the papers of the two candidates.

Shehbaz is the joint opposition's candidate for the prime minister's slot, while ex-foreign minister Qureshi is the former ruling party PTI's candidate for the position.

In an informal conversation with journalists, Shehbaz stressed on "national consensus", calling it his first priority, adding that a consultation would be held for the formation of the new Cabinet, with the efforts to improve economy of the country.

He expressed the intent to start a new era in the country, saying "mutual respect" would be promoted.

In response to a question on cases against PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif - who is in London for more than two years - and his return to the country, the candidate for prime minister said the cases would be analyzed as per the law.

Shehbaz briefly talked about Pakistan's relations with India, saying he would expect peace with the neighbouring country which would be impossible without resolving Kashmir's issue.

After nearly a week's political chaos since April 3, the Supreme Court on Thursday had ordered to conduct a voting on the no-confidence motion against former prime minister Imran Khan, declared the dismissal of the no-trust resolution by the former deputy speaker Qasim Suri unconstitutional and restored the National Assembly which had been dismissed by President Dr Arif Alvi on the advice of Khan.

However, the PTI-led former government on Saturday delayed the voting process for more than 10 hours of convening the NA session till the former speaker Asad Qaiser announced his resignation and handed over the chairmanship of the House to former speaker Ayaz Sadiq.

Following the voting on the no-confidence motion against the ex-premier in the lower house of the Parliament, Khan was ousted from the premiership by 174 votes in favour of the resolution.
