Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) president and Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly Shahbaz Sharif has proposed formation of minus PTI national government for next five years.

Speaking in an interview with Geo News on Wednesday, Shehbaz said that there should be a national government that would serve the country with all dedication, adding that the formation of such government was his personal idea.

After the opposition submitted no-confidence motion against the prime minister on March 08, the political activities within the country have accelerated. The opposition parties have been much engaged in their agenda of getting the required numbers.

Shehbaz, while speaking to the journalists earlier in the day, said that contacts were being made with the government's allies and it will soon be decided.

Fawad terms Shehbaz’s statement about national govt ‘extra constitutional’

Reacting to Shehbaz's statement later in the day, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain took exception to PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif for an “extra constitutional statement” to form a national government for five years.

Fawad said it was a clear violation of the oath of a parliamentarian as thePML-N leader, in an interview, had proposed the new set-up sans the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

He said all the parliamentarians were bound to follow the constitutional provisions as “all [of us] have taken the oath to protect the Constitution,” he added.

The minister said the PTI was the country’s most popular party as it had secured the highest number of votes in the last general election of 2018. He accused the opposition parties of indulging in ‘sale and purchase’ of the members of Parliament.
