Iran refinery hit hours after ceasefire, no casualties reported
1 min readAn oil refinery on Lavan Island was struck in an “enemy attack” early Wednesday, just hours after a ceasefire announcement, triggering a fire but causing no casualties, Iranian authorities said.
The National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company said the facility was hit at around 0630 GMT.
Safety and firefighting teams were immediately deployed to contain the blaze and secure the site.
The company confirmed that all personnel had been evacuated in time, with no loss of life reported. The statement was carried by the Oil Ministry’s news outlet and Mehr News Agency.
The strike has heightened tensions across the region. Reports emerged of missile and drone attacks targeting the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait, with energy infrastructure, power stations and water facilities among the reported targets.
Kuwaiti military sources said air defence systems intercepted a large wave of drones early in the day, though some damage was reported at select sites.
Meanwhile, Israel denied involvement in the refinery strike. Military spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Nadav Shoshani told reporters the Israeli military “was not involved”.
The developments underscore the fragility of the ceasefire and the risk of a broader regional escalation.
