Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Health Dr Faisal Sultan Friday said students, who are not vaccinated against Covid, will not be allowed to attend classes after October 31.

"Only fully vaccinated students will be allowed to attend classes after November 30," said Dr Sultan, while addressing a press conference in Islamabad.

The announcement came a day after the government announced resumption of normal classes in educational institutions.

The government had approved and started vaccination against Covid for 12 to 18 years old young children and teens.

According to an estimate at least 50 million children study in formal and informal education set ups, said Sultan, adding the young children and youths are carriers of the virus, according to research.

He said mobile vaccination vans would provide inoculation facilities in school and ensured parents that the approved vaccines in the country were safe and they should stay away from myths, rumours and fake news.

Briefing on the reopening of schools, the prime minister's assistant said the decision to continue in-person education process was taken in consultation with provincial education ministers after observing the decreasing trend of virus across the country and starting of vaccination for young children and teens.

Sultan said Saturday would be observed especial vaccination day in educational institues, while last week of October and November will be observed as especial vaccination weeks in schools.
