93,445 coronavirus vaccines administered in the past 24 hours: NCOC
Yesterday, as per the reports provided by the National Command and Operations Center (NCOC)- the country's nerve center to synergize and articulate a unified national effort against novel coronavirus infection- over 93 thousand Pakistanis received the COVID-19 vaccine. So far over 1.84 million doses have been given.
This was shared by the NCOC via its official Twitter handle, they wrote:
On 24th April, 93,445 doses of vaccine have been administered across Pakistan, making a total of more than 18 lac 43 thousand doses.
It must be noted that the figure shows the number of vaccine doses given to people, not the number of people fully vaccinated. Since almost every COVID vaccine currently available in Pakistan requires more than one dose, the number of fully vaccinated people in the country is likely to be much lower.
The news comes on a day when the global tally of coronavirus vaccines administered has crossed the one billion mark. The United States, alone, accounting for almost a quarter of the billion shots. In first world countries, one in every 4 people has received at least one dose of the vaccine while in third world countries, sadly, only one in 500 people have received the vaccine.
Though the vaccine administration capacity has been increasing day by day in Pakistan, we are still lagging way behind other nations. In fact, almost every neighboring nation is doing a better job than us in this regard. The federal and provincial governments must import loads of vaccine doses and administer them to the general public as soon as possible because there is no other way we can defeat the deadly virus.
