Normalcy returns to Karachi

Situation in Karachi has returned to normal after effective deployment of Rangers in the affected areas especially in Orangi town, Qasba colony and Katti Pahari.

Although the situation looked improved as compared to last four days carnage which claimed over 97 lives yet people preferred to stay back at home due to fear of violence. The traffic remained visibly thin on the roads.

According to Interior Minister Rehman Malik Rangers have taken control of the pickets of terrorists positioned on top of ‘Katti Pahari’ in Orangi Town area while adjoining areas have also been brought under control by Rangers and Police.

Rehman Malik said that people who had left their homes have started returning and they were being provided relief goods by the government. The Interior Minister also visited the affected areas of Orangi Town where situation has improved after deployment of Rangers contingent.

Besides Rangers, Police, 250 FC men were also deployed while other FC contingents were on their way to take position in the affected areas of the city. Rehman Malik said 87 terrorists were rounded up from the affected areas where the terrorists were using children and elders as human shield.

Referring to intelligence reports the Interior Minister said that some terrorists involved in the carnage were operating on the directives of those already in jails. We are trying to trace out their communication system.

The President and Prime Minister have issued instructions for zero tolerance in action against terrorists to restore peace in Karachi. A comprehensive and strategic operation would be carried out in the affected areas without any discrimination.

He said that enemies of the country were out to destabilize economic hub of the country. However the government is firm and determined to thwart all such designs with the help of the people and media, the minister remarked.

The government is fully determined to protect the life and property of the people and it is our prime responsibility to bring peace not only in Karachi but across the country, he observed in a firm tone.
