Pakistan to host foreign ministers’ meeting on Iran crisis tomorrow
2 min readPakistan will host a high-level meeting of foreign ministers from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Turkey, and Pakistan on March 29-30, aimed at diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions in the Middle East, sources said on Saturday.
The two-day gathering will be chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.
Officials described the meeting as a key initiative to mediate between Iran and the United States and to facilitate dialogue aimed at reducing the ongoing conflict.
Initially, the meeting was scheduled to take place in Turkey, but Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan told media outlets that the venue was shifted to Islamabad to accommodate his Pakistani counterpart.
“It is likely that we will meet this weekend in Pakistan with the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Turkey,” he said.
Meanwhile, senior US officials have expressed the hope that meaningful dialogue will soon be held to resolve the crisis in the Middle East.
Speaking at a business forum in Miami, US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff said he expected Iran to engage in talks with the United States “this week” regarding a 15-point plan.
“We are optimistic that discussions will take place this week,” Witkoff said.
“Our plan addresses all outstanding issues, and we expect a response from Tehran.”
Earlier, German Foreign Minister Johannes Wadiwel emphasised that serious negotiations between the US and Iran in Pakistan could be pivotal.
“Indirect contacts have already taken place, and preparations for direct talks are underway,” he said, adding that immediate dialogue with the United States would be in Tehran’s best interest.
According to the sources, Islamabad has emerged as a key mediator between Iran and the US, acting as a facilitator of diplomatic engagement between the two sides.
Pakistani Officials have highlighted Islamabad’s role in bringing about reconciliation between the US and Iran to de-escalate the situation.
