Karachi dairy farmers demand milk price hike amid rising costs
1 min readFollowing sharp increases in petrol and diesel prices, Karachi’s dairy farmers have called for a rise in milk prices, saying that maintaining current rates is no longer financially viable.
In a letter to the Karachi commissioner, the Karachi Dairy Farmers Association has sought an increase in the price of milk to Rs320 per litre.
In its letter, the association said that at the current rates, farmers are suffering a loss of up to Rs70 for every litre of milk they sell — a burden that has become impossible to bear.
They explained that rising costs for animal feed, transportation, and day-to-day farm operations have made it increasingly difficult for them to make ends meet.
“With rising costs across the board, including surging petroleum product prices, it is no longer feasible for farmers to maintain operations at the current milk price,” the association wrote.
They also noted that transporters and Pakistan Railways have already increased fares, further adding to the financial burden.
The association demanded that the government approve the price adjustment immediately to prevent further strain on the dairy sector.
