Six suspected robbers belonging to an Afghan gang were killed in a police encounter in Pak Colony, Karachi, while two police personnel were injured, officials said on Thursday.

According to SSP Keamari Amjad Shaikh, the shootout erupted during an operation against a robbery gang believed to be involved in multiple street crimes and house robberies in the area.

The encounter left the checkpost in charge, and another policeman injured, both of whom were shifted for medical treatment.

Police said an exchange of fire took place, resulting in the deaths of six suspects. An assault rifle was recovered from the attackers. Additional police contingents were called to secure the area following the incident.

The bodies of the deceased suspects were transported to Civil Hospital Karachi for medico-legal formalities.

Authorities have begun the identification process and are checking the suspects’ criminal records.

SSP Shaikh said the suspects were also involved in a recent house robbery during which three brothers were killed, adding that investigations are continuing to establish further links.

Police said further details will be shared after completion of legal procedures.
