Pakistan, Iran vow to strengthen ties amid regional challenges
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Tuesday held talks with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in Tehran during which the two sides discussed issues of mutual interest, Pakistan-Iran relations, and areas for enhanced bilateral cooperation.
Naqvi congratulated President Pezeshkian on Iran’s victory in the recent war.
He emphasised that the Iranian Supreme Leader and the entire Iranian nation stood resolutely against foreign aggression, with the leadership and strategic foresight of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei playing a pivotal role in securing the victory.
This, he noted, is a source of immense pride for the Muslim Ummah.
Naqvi reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong condemnation of the attack on Iran, highlighting that the Pakistani Parliament was the first to pass a resolution condemning the imposition of war on Iran and supporting its right to self-defence.
He also conveyed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s heartfelt message of goodwill and best wishes to President Pezeshkian.
In response, President Pezeshkian expressed Iran’s deep appreciation for its longstanding ties with Pakistan and assured that Iran would never forget the support extended by Pakistan during the war.
He also warned about efforts by the Zionist regime to create divisions among Muslim nations, stressing the urgent need for unity and cooperation among Islamic countries.
President Pezeshkian emphasised that if Muslim nations fully grasped the importance of unity, they could form a united front against the Zionist agenda.
The Iranian president expressed satisfaction with the current state of bilateral relations between the two countries, stressing that both nations should continue to prioritise diplomatic exchanges and constructive dialogue to broaden their cooperation.
He also thanked Pakistan for its unwavering support during the conflict and underlined the vast opportunities available to further strengthen ties between the two nations.
The meeting was attended by Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni, the Iranian President’s Special Assistant, the Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan, and the Pakistani Ambassador to Iran.
