Pakistan to unveil Rs17.6 trillion budget today

The federal government will table the Federal Budget 2025–26 in the National Assembly today (Tuesday), with an estimated total size of Rs17.6 trillion today (Tuesday).

Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, will deliver his second budget speech in the National Assembly.

As mandated under Article 73 of the Constitution, he will also lay the Finance Bill 2024 in the Senate on the same day.

According to official sources, the government has projected gross federal revenues at Rs19.4 trillion for FY2025–26, reflecting an increase of Rs1.6 trillion over the previous year. The tax collection target has been set at Rs14,130 billion.

The proposed tax revenue breakdown includes:

  • Direct taxes: Rs6,450 billion

  • Sales tax: Rs4,900 billion

  • Federal excise duties: Rs1,150 billion

  • Customs duties: Rs1,740 billion

Additionally, the petroleum levy is expected to generate Rs1,311 billion. Non-tax revenue is projected at Rs4,000 billion, while the provincial budget surplus is estimated at Rs1,200 billion.

The National Assembly Secretariat issued a statement confirming that Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has approved the schedule for the presentation and deliberation of the budget.

Key dates for the budget session include:

  • June 10: Presentation of the Federal Budget in the National Assembly

  • June 11–12: House will remain in recess

  • June 13–21: General discussion on the budget

  • June 22: No sitting of the House

  • June 23: Discussion on charged expenditures for FY2025–26

  • June 24–25: Debate and voting on Demands for Grants and Cut Motions

  • June 26: Approval of the Finance Bill 2025

  • June 27: Discussion and voting on supplementary grants and other related matters

Speaker Sadiq emphasized that all parliamentary parties represented in the National Assembly will be given ample opportunity to participate in the budget debate in accordance with the assembly’s rules and procedures.
