High school runner demands apology after baton strike leaves her with concussion
A high school track athlete in Virginia is seeking an apology after a dangerous incident during a relay race left her with a concussion.
The event occurred at Liberty University during the VHSL Class 3 State Indoor Championship.
Kaelen Tucker, who is a junior at Brookville High School, was competing in the 4x200 relay when she was hit on the head with a baton by Alaila Everett, a senior from IC Norcom High School.
Tucker reported that the collision caused immediate pain, resulting in a headache that led her to seek medical attention.
Doctors confirmed she had a concussion and possibly a skull fracture.
Everett commented on the incident, explaining that her baton got stuck behind Tucker and swung back as she lost her balance.
