Brazilian swimmer mulls legal action after dismissal from Olympics
A Brazilian swimmer who was sent home from Paris in oly2024 for sneaking out of the athletes’ village with her boyfriend is considering legal action against her country’s national federation.
“I have already filed a complaint of harassment and nothing has been resolved, harassment within the team,” Ana Carolina Vieira said in a video posted on her Instagram account.
She was allegedly caught trying to leave the village with her partner Gabriel Santos after crashing out of the 4x100m freestyle relay last Saturday when Brazil finished seventh in their heat.
“I will speak to my lawyers. I promise to tell everything. I am sad, nervous, but with a peace of mind because I know who I am, I know what my character and my nature are.”
The pair were reprimanded by the Brazilian Olympic Committee, which labelled their actions as “disrespectful and aggressively challenging” and took the radical step of banishing them from the Games.
But the 22-year-old Sao Paulo athlete claimed that she was innocent and has filed a harassment complaint against the federation.
