The Federal Ministry of Poverty Alleviation announced on Tuesday Nisab-i-Zakat for 2025, saying that Zakat would be applicable on an amount of Rs179,689 this year.

Zakat will be deducted from savings accounts, profit and loss accounts, and similar types of accounts, according to the ministry. But it has been clarified that Zakat would not be deducted from current accounts.

Moreover, banks would remain closed for public transactions on the first day of Ramazan.

Last week, the Council of Islamic Ideology chairman announced the guidelines for fitrana (charity) and fidya (compensation) during Ramazan. A minimum of Rs220 should be paid as Fitrana per person, according to a statement.

The amounts for Fitrana are as follows: Rs220 for wheat, Rs450 for barley, and Rs1,650 for dates. Amounts for raisins are set at Rs2,500 while the rate for dried figs (Munakka) is Rs5,000.

Moreover, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is scheduled to meet in Peshawar on February 28 (tomorrow) to observe the sighting of the Ramazan moon. Committee Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad would preside over the meeting. It would commence after the Asr prayer.
