Pakistan, US explore investment opportunities in mineral sector
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with Erik Meyer, a senior official from the U.S. Department of State, to discuss potential investments in Pakistan’s mineral sector. During their meeting, held in Islamabad, the Prime Minister invited American companies to tap into the significant opportunities within Pakistan’s mineral resources.
Meyer, who is the Senior Bureau Official and Acting Assistant Secretary of the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs, is leading an American delegation visiting Pakistan for the Pakistan Minerals Investment Forum.
Prime Minister Sharif praised U.S. participation in the forum, emphasizing the considerable prospects for investment in the mineral sector and encouraging U.S. firms to make the most of these opportunities.
Highlighting the importance of U.S.-Pakistan relations, especially concerning bilateral ties and regional stability, Sharif expressed Pakistan’s eagerness to strengthen its relationship with the United States under President Trump’s administration. He stressed the need for enhanced cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, and counter-terrorism.
Acting Assistant Secretary Meyer congratulated Pakistan on successfully organizing the Mineral Investment Forum and acknowledged the vast potential of the mineral sector. He also indicated American companies’ interest in investing in this area and expressed the U.S. commitment to further fostering bilateral relations.
In a separate meeting, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also met with Meyer. They discussed various mutual interests and areas for potential cooperation, including counter-terrorism, smuggling, and drug control.
During this discussion, Meyer condemned the recent terrorist attack on the Jaffar Express, expressed condolences for the victims, and thanked Pakistan for its efforts in capturing wanted terrorist Sharifullah.
Minister Naqvi highlighted the significance of an upcoming joint counter-terrorism dialogue set to take place in Islamabad in June, aimed at enhancing collaboration in the fight against terrorism. He reiterated that the battle against terrorism is not solely Pakistan’s concern, calling for international cooperation in this regard.

Naqvi also emphasized that the Pakistan Minerals Investment Forum offers American companies vast investment prospects, noting that the visit of the American delegation is a significant milestone for future collaboration.
Meyer expressed interest in the opportunities available through the Pakistan Minerals Investment Forum 2025.
The meeting included participation from Acting U.S. Ambassador Natalie Baker, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, and Secretary of Interior Khuram Agha. The American delegation, led by Meyer, is attending the Pakistan Minerals Investment Forum 2025.
