IMF mission’s visit scheduled for $7b loan tranche negotiations

A separate IMF team will discuss Pakistan’s climate financing request

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has announced the schedule for its review mission to Pakistan, which will hold negotiations on the next tranche of the $7 billion loan programme.

IMF’s resident representative in Pakistan, Esther Pérez Ruiz, confirmed that the IMF delegation and technical team will visit Pakistan in early March to conduct the first review of the loan programme.

Additionally, a separate IMF team will hold discussions on Pakistan’s climate financing request.

During the visit, the technical team will assess potential arrangements for climate financing and discuss Pakistan’s policies in this area.

The IMF has acknowledged Pakistan’s efforts in governance reforms and anti-corruption measures, commending the government’s commitment and seriousness in implementing economic reforms.

The IMF mission had previously visited Pakistan from February 6 to 14 for an initial assessment of governance and transparency measures.

Later this year, another IMF delegation is expected to return for further evaluations aimed at improving governance, transparency, and economic outcomes.

According to the IMF, the upcoming visit will also help prepare for the final loan programme review, ensuring Pakistan remains on track with economic and structural reforms needed to unlock further financing.
