Here’s how to check validity of Saudi Arabia’s Iqama
Saudi Arabia has issued an Iqama, a residence permit for foreign nationals to work and live, as proof of an individual’s legal residency, media reports said.
Regular verification of Iqama status is essential for maintaining residency awareness in the kingdom. Being informed helps prevent complications related to employment, travel, and residency. Violations may lead to fines, penalties, or deportation. Compliance with residency laws is “crucial, and checking the Iqama expiry date is important to avoid legal issues.”
On January 3, Saudi Arabian authorities announced updated fees for Iqama renewals, as well as for exit and reentry visas and other services for 2025.
These are the ways to check Iqama status:
Ministry of Labor’s website
-
Step 1: The Ministry of Labor portal defaults to Arabic, but the language can be changed to English for easier navigation.
-
Step 2: The employer provides the Iqama number prior to arrival in Saudi Arabia. The information should be readily available. Enter the Iqama number and birthdate when prompted. After inputting the captcha, click ‘Next.’
-
Step 3: View results
The subsequent page will display all personal information, including the Iqama expiry date and validity period.
Absher app
-
Step 1: Access can be achieved using either the username or Iqama number. The app defaults to English, but switching to Arabic is also possible.
-
Step 2: A one-time PIN will be sent to the registered mobile number to complete the login process.
-
Step 3: The expiration date of the Iqama status will be displayed accordingly.

Offline
Iqama status can also be checked offline by visiting the nearest Jawazat (Passport Office) to verify the permit’s expiration date. It is necessary to bring the original passport (a copy is insufficient) and be ready to provide the Iqama number when requested.
For foreigners residing and working in Saudi Arabia, determining the validity of the Iqama status is essential to avoid potential complications. Failing to renew the Iqama status on time may result in penalties or even deportation.
