The federal government has announced significant amendments to the passport regulations.

The new changes will allow passports to be issued or renewed from any city across the country, providing greater accessibility for citizens.

Additionally, the revised rules state that fees for all passport categories can now be deposited at any branch of the National Bank, aimed at simplifying the process and making it more convenient nationwide.

The Ministry of Interior has submitted a summary of these amendments to the cabinet. Once approved, the changes will enable the issuance of passports in a manner similar to national identity cards, facilitating a smoother and more efficient system for all applicants. This move by the government is expected to decentralize the passport issuance process and make it more accessible and user-friendly for citizens across the country.

The authorities have ramped up the passport printing process to operate round the clock. Emergency measures have been initiated by the passport authorities to clear the backlog of passport requests, with the printing process continuing uninterrupted even on Independence Day.

The Director General of Immigration and Passports, Mustafa Jamal Qazi, has instructed the staff to work 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to expedite the passport issuance process.

To boost the morale of the production staff, DG Qazi personally visited the office, cut a cake with them to celebrate Independence Day, and praised their dedication to working on a holiday. Additionally, a special meal was arranged in honour of the employees.

DG Qazi stressed the importance of elevating the national passport’s reputation globally, stating that the timely and dignified issuance of passports to citizens is a top priority for the government. These measures demonstrate the authorities’ commitment to addressing the passport crisis and providing efficient and responsive services to the citizens.
