Heroic Muslim man saves victims in London knife attack
A Muslim security guard in London’s theater district intervened to stop a knife attack, potentially saving the lives of the victims.
The incident occurred on Monday in the busy Leicester Square area. An 11-year-old girl and a 34-year-old woman were injured in the assault, which followed a week of far-right, anti-immigration riots targeting mosques and accommodations for asylum seekers across England.
The hero in question, a 29-year-old named Abdullah who works at a tea shop in the area, heard the commotion and immediately sprang into action. Without hesitation, he tackled the attacker, subdued him, and kicked the knife away.
Abdullah was assisted by other bystanders, and they held the assailant down until the police arrived.
Abdullah’s heroic actions were widely praised on social media, with many users highlighting the fact that he was a Muslim man who stepped up to save lives.
Some commenters accused the mainstream media of failing to give adequate coverage to this inspiring story, arguing that it demonstrates the biases in how such incidents are reported.
The 11-year-old girl suffered serious, but non-life-threatening injuries, while the woman’s wounds were less severe. Abdullah expressed his horror at the attack, especially against a child, and emphasized that he acted out of a sense of duty to protect the victims.
