More deaths in areas with severe loadshedding, Faisal Edhi says

Adds that the number of deaths has increased recently

Karachi is facing a severe heatwave coupled with prolonged power outages, leading to a shocking increase in the number of deaths. Faisal Edhi, the son of renowned philanthropist Abdul Sattar Edhi, has expressed deep concern over the rising death toll, highlighting the devastating impact of the current situation.

According to Faisal Edhi, the Edhi Foundation morgues are receiving an average of 30 to 40 bodies daily, with the number increasing significantly over the past six days. He revealed that most of the deceased are from areas severely affected by load shedding.

Edhi further disclosed that doctors often avoid attributing deaths to heatwaves, instead citing other causes. He explained that even in cases of gunshot wounds, the cause of death is often listed as “heart and brain failure.”

Edhi emphasized that the purpose of sharing these statistics is to alert authorities to the severity of the situation.

He added that the Edhi Foundation accepts bodies even with only identity cards, as many families skip hospitals and directly bring their deceased to the morgues after obtaining confirmation from local doctors.

Faisal Edhi also expressed support for the planned protest against load shedding scheduled for June 30th.
