People enjoy respite from heatwave as rain lashes part of Karachi

However, the weather is expected to remain hot

Karachi experienced a brief respite from the scorching heat on Thursday as light rain and drizzle swept across various parts of the city, including Gadap Town, Super Highway, Malir, and Bahria Town.

However, the first drops of rain triggered widespread power outages across the city, with 240 feeders tripping.

The downpour also caused a billboard to collapse on a building in DHA’s Shahdaman Town, North Karachi.

While the rain brought a welcome change in temperature, it also caused traffic disruptions. A passenger bus on Hasan Square skidded and collided with the sidewalk, blocking traffic on one track. The bus, belonging to a private community, disrupted traffic flow on the road leading from Gharibabad to Stadium Road.

The Met Office had predicted rain with thunder and lightning in Karachi on Thursday and Friday. The city recorded a temperature of 38 degrees Celsius earlier today, with a heat index of 47 degrees Celsius.

Despite the brief rain, the city remains largely humid. The Met Office has issued a heatstroke warning for Karachi, with a humidity level of 49 percent and a predicted temperature of 40 degrees Celsius, with a heat index of 48 degrees Celsius.

While the rain brought temporary relief, the city remains under the grip of a heatwave, highlighting the need for caution and preventive measures against heatstroke.
