Pakistan’s Thar Coal Block-II mine is poised for full-scale operations following the approval of its Commercial Operations Date (COD) Stage tariff by the Thar Coal & Energy Board (TCEB).

The TCEB, chaired by the Sindh Chief Minister, unanimously approved the COD Stage tariff for the mine’s Phase-II, which boasts a capacity of 7.6 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa).

The tariff was set at $36.70 per tonne, significantly lower than the initially proposed $45.80 per tonne.

The Thar Coalfield aims to reduce energy tariff prices across the nation, and the implementation of these projects is expected to bring tangible benefits to both the region and the nation as a whole.
