The Pakistan Peoples Party has also decided not to take ministries in Punjab, sources within the party said on Thursday, a day after reaching a consensus with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz for the formation of a central government.

They added that the party would just have its governor in the province, however, PPP’s victorious candidate from South Punjab has voiced their reservation about ministries with the party.

On Wednesday night, leaders of the PPP and the PML-N addressed a joint press conference in Islamabad where they announced that an agreement was reached between the two parties on the power-sharing formula to form the next government.

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari stated the PML-N and the PPP have sufficient numbers to form the federal government, with PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif nominated as the candidate for the post of the prime minister.

Similarly, PPP leader Asif Ali Zardari would be the joint candidate for the president’s office. About other coveted offices, such as the National Assembly speaker and the Senate chairman, the PPP chief said decisions in this regard had been made but their announcement would be made at a later stage.

Newly elected PPP members from South Punjab maintained that the people had elected them after voting for them, saying how they would work if they didn’t have ministries.
