Temperatures fall to nearly freezing level as westerly cold winds enter country
The intensity of coldness increased in Karachi as the mercury dropped to 14 degrees Celsius in the metropolis, said the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
According to the advisory, northeast winds blowing at the speed of eight kilometres per hour per hour forced the temperature to drop.
According to the Met Office Karachi will also experience light rain and Balochistan can experience heavy snowfall in the next two days.
Snowfall is anticipated in Chaghi, Quetta, Chaman, Ziarat, Qilla Abdullah, Qillah Saifullah, Loralai, Pishin, Mastung, Zhob, Kalat, Musa Khel, Kharan, Harnai, Sibbi, Noshki, Khuzdar and Makran coast.
On the other hand, dense fog persists in some parts of Sindh and Punjab causing traffic imbalance and closure of roads, including the National Highway motorways the authority closed many link roads used in intercity travel.
Motorway M2 has been closed from Islamabad to Balkasar, M5, from Iqbalabad interchange to Rohri, while Sawat Expressway shut down from Katlang to Chakdara toll plaza.
Amid severe fog in most parts of the country, the authorities advised the citizens to avoid unnecessary travel, especially on motorways, and experts recommended wearing masks when going outside.
