US lawmakers commend Pakistan’s counter-terrorism efforts, discuss trade cooperation

A high-level delegation of US Congressmen met with Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi in Islamabad to discuss a wide range of bilateral issues, including security cooperation, counterterrorism, and economic collaboration.

The delegation included Congressmen Jack Bergman, Tom Suozzi, and Jonathan Jackson. Also present during the meeting were Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, Acting US Ambassador to Pakistan Natalie Baker, and Federal Interior Secretary Khurram Agha.

The meeting featured detailed discussions on mutual interests and ways to strengthen bilateral relations. Both sides explored opportunities to enhance cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, and investment. A particular focus was also placed on security, counter-terrorism, and border management.

Speaking to the delegation, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi welcomed the upcoming Pakistan Caucus event in the US Congress on April 30, calling it a positive development. He stressed Pakistan’s frontline role in the global fight against terrorism, describing the country as a “barrier between terrorism and the rest of the world.”

Naqvi emphasized the need for the international community to intensify cooperation with Pakistan, particularly in intelligence sharing and the use of advanced technology to combat terrorism.

Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry added that the Joint Counter-terrorism Dialogue scheduled to be held in Islamabad this June will play a pivotal role in further strengthening cooperation between Pakistan and the United States in counterterrorism efforts.

The U.S. lawmakers acknowledged Pakistan’s sacrifices and contributions in the fight against terrorism. They emphasized the importance of highlighting Pakistan’s efforts on international platforms and praised the Pakistani-American community as talented and capable.

The meeting is seen as part of a broader effort to enhance strategic ties between Islamabad and Washington, particularly in the areas of regional security and economic development.
