Australia’s opening batter Travis Head is likely to join his teammates in India on October 19, a day before the Aussies take on Pakistan in their World Cup game, Cricket Australia reported on Sunday.

Head had the protective splint removed from his hand on October 13 and faced an increasing number of throw downs in the practice nets after recovering from an injury in a one-day international against South Africa on September 15.

The opening batter was named in Australia’s 15-man Cup squad despite the injury and is eyeing a return to Australia’s World Cup squad at the end of this week.

The left-handed opener is scheduled to fly out of Adelaide October 19 arriving in India the following day. However, he would not be available for Australia’s fourth game of the tournament against Pakistan at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium October 20.

Head could be passed fit for the subsequent outing against Netherlands in Delhi. Australia are then scheduled to play New Zealand at Dharamsala, defending champions England at Ahmedabad, Afghanistan at Mumbai and Bangladesh in Pune.

Australia has lost two of its games it played at the World Cup, putting it only above Afghanistan which is placed at the 10th spot in the table.
