Four foreigners among five arrested for fraud through Facebook
The Federal Investigation Agency has claimed to have arrested five suspects, including four foreigners, for allegedly extorting money from people on the pretense of gifts through Facebook.
The four foreigners belonged to Nigeria, the FIA’s Cyber Crime Circle in Islamabad said, adding that the suspects used to trick the people by pretending to be female citizens of different countries.
At least four mobile phones have been recovered from the possession of suspects. The FIA has lodged a case under the PECA Act and further investigation was under way.
The suspects used to lure the victims into buying gifts after making contact with them through social media. They extorted the money under the garb of customs and delivery charges.
The complainant has accused the suspects of stealing more than 1.3 million from them. The said amount was sent to different accounts and the suspects were demanding more amount for the delivery of gifts.
