Special court adjourns bail hearing in cypher case
A special court set up under the Official Secrets Act heard the bail pleas in the cypher case against PTI Chairman Imran Khan and Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Saturday in Islamabad.
Khan and Qureshi face the charges of leaking a diplomatic cypher sent from then-Pakistan ambassador to the US Asad Majeed in March 2022. The cypher has been at the heart of PTI claims about an alleged conspiracy to remove Imran Khan from power.
Both Khan and Qureshi were arrested by the FIA in the cypher case in mid-August.
Judge Abul Hasnat Zulqarnain on Saturday heard the bail pleas from Imran Khan and adjourned the hearing until Monday, September 4.
The judge told the PTI lawyers that the special court could hear the pleas only if the PTI withdraws similar petitions from the Islamabad High Court.
The PTI legal team said they were ready to withdraw the petition filed before the high court.
