Federal Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah has confirmed that Abdul Hafeez Sheikh is one the candidates who have been shortlisted for the post of caretaker prime minister.

Sanaullah made the revelation while talking to Geo News on Sunday.

He also said that, along with Sheikh, the name of a retired Supreme Court judge has also been shortlisted. However, he did not name the judge.

The minister added that the names of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz leaders Ishaq Dar and Shahid Khaqan Abbasi had not been shortlisted.

Sheikh has been involved with multiple governments in Pakistan. Most recently, he served as the finance czar in Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s government from 209 to 2021, first as advisore and then as minister.

He had to leave his post after he failed to win a Senate election in 2021.
