The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested PTI President Pervaiz Elahi from the Lahore jail.

The former Punjab chief minister and a close ally of PTI chief Imran Khan faces multiple charges of corruption and other cases and has been held in prison since his arrest on June 1.

On Monday morning, a team of FIA arrived at the Lahore prison and left with Elahi after he was handed over to the investigation agency by the jail authorities.

The FIA will produce him before a local judge and seek his remand.

Elahi was a top Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PMLQ) leader until earlier this year when he announced that he was merging his faction into the PTI. The other faction of the PMLQ under Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain remains intact.
