American model Gigi Hadid has joined a number of celebrities who quit Twitter after the new boss Elon Musk took over the multi-billion dollar company.

“I deactivated my Twitter account today. For a long time, but especially with its new leadership, it’s becoming more and more of a cesspool of hate & bigotry, and its not a place I want to be a part of,” she said in her Instagram stories.

Since his takeover, Musk has taken several decisions that have irked several users on the social media site. The Tesla founder has decided to charge $8 per month for the blue tick on Twitter, which is a verification tag for the users. Twitter Inc laid off half its workforce on Friday with a statement that cuts were smaller in the team responsible for preventing the spread of misinformation.

Gigi has joined Bridgerton producer Shonda Rhimes, singers Sara Bareilles and Toni Braxton in quitting the social media platform.

Gigi, the former partner of British singer Zayn Malik, said that she feels sorry for her fans whom she loved connecting with for nearly a decade via Twitter. But, she added that she “can’t say it’s a safe place for anyone, nor a social platform that will do more good than harm.”

The American model shared MSNBC host Ayman Mohyeldin’s post about Shannon Raj Singh, former human rights counsel at Twitter, who tweeted that Friday was her last day at the company because the entire human rights team at the company had been cut off.
