Neglect leaves 154-year-old hospital in KP’s Tank at mercy of floods

TANK, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: A 154-year-old hospital in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Tank district has sustained damages due to the heavy rains and floods, with parts of the hospital completely submerged and rendered inoperative.

Christian Hospital Director Dr Nadeem told Aaj News that the hospital was completely submerged in water. “We contacted the management many times that we have several newborn babies in the neonatal ward but no one paid timely attention,” he added.

Dr Sobia said that the children’s nursery and gynaecology department had also been affected, adding that if timely measures were taken, the patients would not have been referred to other districts.

She said that similar neglet has created problems for other medical institutions in the city, while calling for strict action against those responsible.

Meanwhile, the PDMA Director General Sharif Hussain in a statement said that relief operations were ongoing in the flood-affected districts and the provincial government was making all-out efforts to provide relief to the flood victims.

The devastating flood, that broke the 30 years flood record, started from Kalam Swat and passed through different districts including Dir, Malakand, Mohmand, Charsadda, Nowshera and DI Khan.
