Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz President Shehbaz Sharif has vowed not to take “political revenge” on rivals and assured that justice would prevail, after the erstwhile opposition’s vote of no-confidence against Imran Khan succeeded in a delayed post-midnight NA session.

Taking the floor, he said the erstwhile opposition was thankful to God that “a new dawn” will come in the country with the ousting of former premier Imran Khan.

“I want to salute the leaders of united opposition for showing unity, brotherhood, and discipline. We have not seen such examples in the country’s history,” he said and thanked joint opposition leaders and former government allies for their support. He also thanked the nation.

He was of the view that such a collaboration “would again” develop Pakistan and paid tribute to PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif.

“We don’t want to go on past bitterness and want to move forward and want to make Pakistan a great nation,” Shehbaz said, “We want to resolve the issues. We will not take revenge on anyone, we will not do injustice with anyone and not send people to jail for no reason but justice and law will take their due course and no political leader from erstwhile opposition will interfere in such matters.”

“Justice will prevail and from bottom of our heart we will accept judiciary,” he said and vowed to work with institutions and build a Pakistan as envisioned by the founder of Pakistan Quaid-i-Azam. The PML-N president further thanked the House speaker for presiding over the session.

‘Welcome back to old Pakistan’

As PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari took the floor to speak, the House echoed with chants of “long live Bhutto” as the PPP along with the multi-party confab had held convinced the ruling allies to vote in favour of the no-confidence motion.

Bilawal “congratulated” the nation on making the no-confidence motion successful for the first time in the country’s history. Sharing the historical events, he said: “On April 10, 2973, this House [NA] approved the 1973 Constitution; on April 10, 1986, this House reached Lahore for her struggle against the dictatorship of former dictator Gen Ziaul Haq. Today is April 10, 2022… and to the government, which we had declared selected and the burden this country was bearing for over three years… [I] welcome back [you] to ‘old Pakistan’ on April 10, 2022.”

The PPP chief said that he had learned a lot over the last three years, adding: “I should give a message to the youth that they should never give up on their dreams, nothing is impossible.” He reiterated that democracy was the “best revenge” and “long live Pakistan.”
