Journalists outside the Supreme Court in Islamabad, on Wednesday, protested against PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry and called to boycott him after he exchanged harsh words with senior journalist Matiullah Jan.

Aaj News reported that journalists demanded the former information minister apologise for the apparent use of rude language against the senior journalist. But, Fawad refused to listen and continued to use foul language against the journalists.

The reporters were outside the apex court to cover the proceedings pertaining to the suo motu notice of the political crisis. The SC on Wednesday (today) will hear the government's arguments after it heard the former opposition parties. National Assembly Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri on Sunday had rejected the erstwhile opposition’s no-confidence motion and termed it against Article 5 of the Constitution.

The situation became tense after Fawad repeatedly dismissed the journalist's request to ask questions after former minister Asad Umer's address, eventually saying that people like the journalist show up because they are "for hire".

The footage shows that fellow journalists tried to settle the situation and urged the former information minister to apologise.

The video footage showed that the senior journalist apparently continued to ask a question pertaining to First Lady Bushra Bibi’s friend Farah Khan, who fled the country amid serious allegations of corruption levelled against her by the opposition, to Fawad despite the latter’s insistence to ask queries after his media talk.

Eventually, Fawad lost his cool and badmouthed the senior journalist which prompted the latter to protest and engage in an argument with the former. Both of them continued to trade barbs, as seen in the footage. Fellow reporters’ efforts to calm down the situation went in vain as both refused to keep silent which led to reporters’ boycott of the presser.

Video of the incident went viral on social media, with Matiullah among the top trends on Twitter.

Netizens were having mixed reviews on the incident as some were criticising the journalist for apparently instigating the PTI leader. And a few took a jibe at Fawad for using “gun for hire” comments for the journalist.
