PM Imran's security beefed up after agencies report assassination plot
The government on Friday beefed up Prime Minister Imran Khan's security after agencies reported that a plot “has been hatched” to assassinate Prime Minister Imran Khan.
In a tweet, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry on Friday said: “The security agencies have reported that a plot to assassinate Prime Minister Imran Khan has been hatched. Following these reports, the security of the Prime Minister has been beefed up as per the government decision.”
Talking to Aaj News, Fawad said that security agencies had reported the bid as "most serious". He was of the view that those plotting have come to this point after they could not "politically kill" the premier.
The development comes days after former water resources minister Faisal Vawda in an interview with ARY News claimed that a conspiracy was being hatched to assassinate the prime minister over their refusal to “sell the country.”
PM Imran, whose fate is expected to be decided on Sunday on the day of the no-trust vote, March 27 claimed that a foreign conspiracy was behind attempts to topple his government. Addressing a crowd on Islamabad’s parade ground, he held a “piece of evidence” as proof for his claim.
According to PM Imran, the opposition’s no-confidence motion against him was a result of a “foreign conspiracy” because of his “independent foreign policy.” He alleged that funds were being channelled from abroad to oust him from power.
